*Some Banca Elca Depositors Can Get Money Back,
Starting Today

Some Banco Elca depositors will begin getting money
back from
the institution today under the auspices of the
Asociación
Bancaria Costarricense.

The association which supervises a guarantee fund for
private
banks, said that deposits less than 500,000 colons
(some $1,235)
would be distributed over the course of the coming
month.

The association is dividing depositors up according
to the
first letter of their last name. For example, Those
with names
beginning with "A" or "B" can apply by calling the
bank between
today and Friday. Those with names beginning with "RÂ’
through "Z"
have to wait until Oct. 11 through Oct. 15, said the
association.

*Costa Rica To Hold Presidency of the International
Criminal Court
Bruno Stagno Ugarte, Costa Rican ambassador to the
United Nations, will be presiding over the next year's
session of the International Criminal Court.

Stagno was chosen by the Assembly of States in it's
last session held at The Hague, from September 6 to 10.

Stagno has bee a permanent representative of Costa Rica
and the UN since 2002.

*Gasoline Prices to Jump Tomorrow
Tonight at the stroke of midnight, gasoline prices will
increase a whopping 7% or ¢23 colones for a litre of
super
gasoline.

The price will jump tonight from the current ¢326.5
to ¢349.
Regular gasoline will go from ¢312.5 to ¢335.

*Independence Torch to Arrive Today

Following more than 2.500 kilometers of travel
through Central
America, today the Antorcha de Independencia -
Independence Torch
- is expected to come to Costa Rica.

The flame is expected to get to Costa Rica around
10am, which will
be carried by studends of the seven provinces that
make up Costa Rica.

The torch is coming from Nicaragua, entering at the
northern
border point of Peñas Blancas in Guanacaste.

Along with all of Central America, Costa Rica on
September 15,
celebrates its independence from Spain which was
achieved in 1821.

*Mercosur, EU hope to meet trade deadline
The South American trade bloc Mercosur and the
European Union
said after a ministerial meeting Sunday they hope to
conclude
stalled talks about free-trade agreement on time.
